Young Artist Competition Results
for the 2012-2013 CYS Season May 6, 2012
Each spring the California Youth Symphony holds its annual Young Artist Competition to select soloists for the coming year. This year’s Competition, once again held at Stanford University, drew 15 extraordinarily talented young musicians. The winner in the instrumental division was 10 year old violinist Alex Zhou of San Jose, playing Ravel’s Tzigane. Alex is the youngest musician ever to win the Young Artist Competition. The winner in the piano division was 15 year old Rachel Breen of Oakland, performing Betthoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4. The piano competition was extremely close, with the judges awarding a rare second place prize to Hilda Huang of Palo Alto.
