Click on the image above for a video glimpse of our many programs. CYS Celebrates 60 Years! This season the California Youth Symphony celebrates its 60th anniversary. Since its founding in early 1952 CYS has grown from a single orchestra to 8 ensembles involving nearly 500 young musicians from over 100 Bay Area schools. The organization has earned a worldwide reputation for excellence and innovation, including being the first youth orchestra ever to tour overseas (Japan 1963). Over the years CYS has had only three music directors -- Aaron Sten, our founder; Lauren Jakey; and Leo Eylar, our current director who is celebrating 21 years with CYS!
Relive your glory days in CYS. All alumni are invited to dust off their instrument and play in the Reunion Orchestra, under Leo Eylar’s baton, in the afternoon at Palo Alto’s Spangenberg Theater. Or if you feel too rusty, just come and enjoy the music. Following the Reunion Concert, join Maestro Eylar and old and new friends for dinner, socializing and reminiscing at the Fremont Hills Country Club, Los Altos Hills.The entire cost for the concert and dinner will be $50, with a special discount of $35 for those of you who are still students.
Auditions for new members for the 2011-2012 season will be held this Spring on the weekends of April 13 & 14 and April 20 & 21. Each Spring, the Bay Area's talented young instrumental soloists are invited to compete for the opportunity to perform with the California Youth Symphony Orchestra during the coming season. The CYS Young Artist Competition for the 2012-2013 Season will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2012 at Stanford University. Click here for more information.
