October 1975 Concert

The CYS 24th Season First Concert, conducted by Aaron Sten, was performed on Sunday, October 12, 1975, at 7:00 P.M. at the San Mateo High School Auditorium, with a repeat concert on Sunday, October 19, 1975, at 2:30 P.M. at the De Anza College Flint Auditorium. 

The program opened with the customary "The Star-Spangled Banner", and was followed by Vasily Sergeyevich Kalinnikov (1866–1901)'s Symphony No. 1 in G Minor, performed in its four movements: Allegro moderato, Andante comodamente, Scherzo; Allegro non troppo, and Finale; Allegro moderato. 

Following the intermission, the second half featured Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791)'s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra in A Major, K. 622, with the first movement (Allegro) performed by Clarinet Soloist Michael Francis. This was followed by Elliot A. Del Borgo (b. 1938)'s Music for Winds and Percussion, which was conducted by Richard Peterson. The program continued with Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827)'s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in C Major, Op. 15, featuring the first movement (Allegro con Brio) and showcasing Julie Nishimura as the Piano Soloist. The evening concluded with Morton Gould (1913–1996)'s American Salute.


February 1975 Concert

CYS 24th Season's Second Concert, conducted by Aaron Sten, was presented on Sunday, February 15, 1976, at the San Mateo High School Auditorium, with a repeat performance on Sunday, February 22, 1976, at the De Anza College Flint Auditorium. Critics found the program overall "delightful and well played". The performance commenced with the customary "The Star Spangled Banner", followed by William R. Ward's Suite on Traditional American Songs, which the review described as a "well thought-out conglomeration of numerous folk themes" and featured "splendid solo passages among the woodwind and brass players". 

Concluding the first half was Franz Liszt (1811–1886)'s Piano Concerto No. 2 in A Major, with movements including Adagio sostenuto assai and Allegro animato, highlighting the "impressive performance" of Piano Soloist Debbie Gong-Guy. After the intermission, the second half began with Jaromir Weinberger (1896–1967)'s Concerto for Timpani with 4 Trumpets and 3 Trombones and Tuba, conducted by Richard Peterson and featuring Greg Maris as the Timpani Soloist; this work was noted by a critic as a "rather complex and involved selection". The evening concluded with George Gershwin (1898–1937) / Robert Russell Bennett (1894–1981)'s Porgy and Bess (A Symphonic Picture), which provided a "skilful panorama of the entire Gershwin score with taste and understanding".


April 1976 Concert

The CYS 24th Season – Third Concert, conducted by Aaron Sten, was performed on Saturday, April 24, 1976, at 7:00 P.M. at the San Mateo High School Auditorium, with a repeat concert on Sunday, April 25, 1976, at 2:30 P.M. at the De Anza College Flint Auditorium. 

The program opened with the customary "The Star Spangled Banner". The main portion of the concert began with Felix Mendelssohn (1809–1847)'s Symphony No. 3 in A Minor, op. 56 (“Scottish”), performed continuously across its four movements: Andante con moto – Allegro un poco agitato, Vivace non troppo, Adagio, and Allegro vivacissimo – Allegro maestoso assai. Following the intermission, the second half began with Antonín Leopold Dvořák (1841–1904)'s Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B Minor, op. 104, featuring the first movement (Allegro) and showcasing Valerie Solomon as the Cello Soloist. This was followed by John Warrington (1911–1978) and George Frock (b. 1930)'s Drums of America, which was conducted by Richard Peterson. The program continued with Felix Mendelssohn (1809–1847)'s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in G Minor, op. 25, featuring the movements Molto allegro con fuoco, Presto, and Molto allegro e vivace, and showcasing Cindy Nitta as the Piano Soloist. The evening concluded with John Philip Sousa (1854–1932)'s patriotic march, Stars and Stripes Forever.
