The program concluded with William Schuman (1910–1992)'s New England Triptych, which consisted of three parts: I. "Be Glad Then, America," II. "When Jesus Wept," and III. "Chester."

May 1970 Concert

CYS's 18th Season – Third Concert was presented in May 1970, with performances held at San Mateo High School on May 17th and Foothill College Gym on May 24th. The program was a diverse and ambitious showcase of orchestral repertoire, beginning with two contrasting concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750). The first was Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 in G Major, BWV 1049, which featured Wendy Price on solo violin alongside flute soloists Barbara Small and Lesley Flynn. This was followed by the energetic Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major, BWV 1048.

Following the Baroque selections, the orchestra performed Sergei Prokofiev (1891–1953)'s modern and evocative Lieutenant Kijé, Symphonic Suite, op. 60, taking the audience through its five distinct movements, including the well-known "Troika" and "Romance."

After an intermission, the concert shifted to the Romantic era with Edward Elgar (1857–1934)'s deeply expressive Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in E Minor, op. 85. It featured Barbara Bogatin as the cello soloist for the movements: Adagio – moderato, Allegro molto, and Allegro.

The grand finale of the program was Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840–1893)'s thrilling 1812 Overture, op. 49, a monumental piece ensuring the concert concluded with dramatic flair.
