Clarinetist Zhenyu (Johnny) Wang is a young artist enjoying a fulfilling musical life. As an orchestral musician, Wang currently performs with the San Francisco Youth Symphony and has performed with El Camino Youth Symphony. His summer engagements include the Philadelphia International Music Festival, Boston University Tanglewood Institute young artist orchestra and the Eastern music festival. In addition to orchestra, Johnny is experienced with Wind Ensemble repertoire. Not only was he the principal clarinetist in the Foothill High School Wind Ensemble and a member of the Chabot Wind Symphony, he also was the principal clarinetist at the Northern California Band Association honor band and a member of California All-State Honor Band’s wind symphony. He has performed in many artist’s master classes including Jon Manesse, Boris Allakhverdyan, Scott Andrewson, and Jonathan Gunn.

Aside from large ensembles, Johnny is an active chamber musician. He is familiar with a  wide variety of chamber repertoire, ranging from composers in the classical era to contemporary music.  Aside from regular clarinets, Johnny is also fluent with auxiliary instruments. He performs Bass clarinet regularly at SFCM and SFSYO, and performed extremely difficult repertoire on eb clarinet including Shostakovich 10th and the Rite of Spring. He currently studies with Carey Bell at the San Francisco Conservatory of music, and was also greatly influenced by Debra Gardner and Boris Allakhverdyan.
