Sora Corro, piano

Young Artist Competition Winner

Sora Corro is a 10th grader at Irvington High School in Fremont California. She started learning piano when she was 2 years old. Since then, she has won many prizes including first place in the Ross Mckee piano competition, Marilyn Mindell piano competition, Gavilan College Youth Piano Competition, East Bay Music Foundation, US new star piano competition, United States Open Music Competition, and CAMPT State Honors competition. She also placed top prizes in the Reno-Tahoe Piano Competition, San Francisco International Piano Competition, Chicago International Piano Competition, and Pacific Musical Society & Foundation competition.

In June 2023, Sora performed Kabalevsky's Piano Concerto with the Urbana-Pop Orchestra in Champaign, Illinois. Sora was also featured in the Independent Coast Observe (ICO) article and gave a solo recital in Gualala, California. She has also been named a recipient of the National Chopin Foundation Scholarship for 2025-2026. She has had masterclasses with many accomplished pianists including Yoshikazu Nagai, Steven Spooner, Armen Babakhanian, John Perry, Mina Perry, Sasha Starcevich, Boris Slutsky, and Jean David Coen. Last summer she attended the John Perry Summer Program, Piano Texas, and Music@Menlo. In summer 2025, she attended Southeastern Piano Festival and Juilliard’s Summer Music Program.

Besides solo performing, she is active as a chamber musician. She plays the piano/string quintet and trio in community centers and senior homes. When she has free time, she enjoys playing soccer on her school’s varsity team. She speaks Spanish and Japanese fluently and is learning American sign language.
