Audition Requirements for Associate Orchestra Members

CYS ORCHESTRA

CONDUCTOR: Leo Eylar

  • A prepared piece or study that best demonstrates your current ability level.
    • Choose your BEST three (3) minutes of the solo you will be performing that shows you off to best advantage. 
  • SHOSTAKOVICH SYMPHONY NO. 5 EXCERPT
    • Trumpets: Beginning to Rehearsal #110 (not measure 110, Trumpet 1 part)
    • All Others: Beginning to Rehearsal #108 (not measure 108)
      • Reminder: Winds & Brass - play 1st parts
      • Reminder: Violins - play the part according to your current section assignment.
    • Please contact Carmina@cys.org if you still need a part.
    • Recording provided under the Suggested Recordings page.
      • Trumpets play until 36:42, while the rest of the orchestra plays up until 36:18.
  • Woodwind applicants are also highly encouraged, although not required, to audition on auxiliary instruments (i.e. flute/piccolo, oboe/English horn, clarinet/bass clarinet/e-flat clarinet, bassoon/contrabassoon, alto sax/tenor sax/bari sax, etc.)
    • In this case, woodwind applicants may submit an additional video for the auxiliary instrument.

PERCUSSION

INSTRUCTOR: Artie Storch

  • A prepared piece or study of your choice appropriate to your performing level on snare, mallets (marimba or xylophone) and timpani.
  • Simple sight reading.
  • Experience with all instruments not required.
